Family Medicine Residency @ AccessHealth

Family Medicine Residency Program

AccessHealth Teaching Health Center Family Medicine Residency is a 3-year, unopposed program and accepts 4 new residents annually.

Our program was founded in 2011 as one of the original 11 Teaching Health Center Graduate Medical Education (THCGME) sites. THCGME is funded by Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) and bases residency training in community-based settings such as a Federally Qualified Health Centers. Research has shown that physicians who train in rural and underserved communities during their residency are more likely to work in these areas after graduation and feel well qualified to meet the needs of these communities. Our program places a strong emphasis on outpatient family medicine, while also meeting the ACGME requirements for hospital-based rotations.

Core hospital rotations occur at Raleigh General Hospital, a Joint Commission accredited, 300 bed hospital in Beckley, WV.

The Program was originally accredited by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA). We currently have ACGME Continued Accreditation status.

AccessHealth Teaching Health Center is committed to the provision of patient-centered, evidence-based, primary health care and health education through innovative programs dedicated to community engagement, leadership, and excellence.

A Bit About Southern WV

AccessHealth is located in the southern part of West Virginia, in Beckley, WV. Beckley is a great location for those who love the outdoors. Our very own New River Gorge has been titled one of the newest National Parks to date in the United States. You will find some of the finest fishing, rafting, mountain biking, rock climbing, and hiking in the entire eastern U.S. Just head into the New River Gorge, which is about a half hour from Beckley’s downtown. The nearby Glade Creek trail follows an old rail line through a beautiful creek canyon. The recently completed Summit-Bechtel Reserve is the BSA’s hub for national-level jamborees in the East. There are also excellent golf courses and if you like winter sports, such as skiing, snowboarding, and tubing, Winterplace is nearby. You will quickly and easily see why our state has earned the nickname Almost Heaven.

    Meet The 1st Year Residents

    Dr. Allie Arthur

My name is Allie Arthur. I am a Beckley native and a graduate of the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine. I chose family medicine because I am passionate about helping others achieve a healthy lifestyle and promoting patient-centered care. I look forward to building lifelong relationships with my patients and working alongside my fellow colleagues at Access Health. Outside of medicine, I enjoy reading, traveling, and hiking in wild and wonderful West Virginia. I love to spend time with my husband and my 8-month-old daughter Evelyn.

    Dr. Drew Humphrey

My name is Drew Humphrey. I did my undergraduate and medical education at Marshall University. I chose family medicine because I enjoy all fields of medicine and family med does the best job of incorporating all of those fields. I look forward to being able to refine my skills as a physician in the town where I was born and raised with a program that has such a great focus on education and wellness. My hobbies include lifting weights, hiking, and playing video games with my wife.

    Dr. Caden Minnix

My name is Caden Minnix and I am from Bluefield VA. I was raised by my dad and my mom, Doug and Jan Minnix. I also have two younger sisters, Sarah and Hannah. I married my lovely wife Rhyan Bailey, who is starting her pediatrics residency at CAMC this year, before I started medical school. I was homeschooled my whole life before I attended Bluefield College for my undergraduate degree. After graduation, I furthered my education at the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine. The biggest reason I chose family medicine because I always liked the concept of the all-around small-town doctor. I plan on going back home to the Bluefield-Princeton area after I have completed my training. I’m looking forward to working with my preceptors and fellow residents to improve myself so I can best serve my community. I have always enjoyed reading fantasy novels and playing DnD with friends. I also enjoy studying history, hiking, working on my aquariums, and spending time with family.

    Dr. Tylor Tabit

My name is Tylor Tabit and I’m from Fayetteville, WV. I attended Concord University for my bachelors, West Liberty University for my Masters, and WVSOM for my medical degree. I married my wife Sydney Jordan Tabit of Hinton, WV on June 17, 2023. I wanted to become a doctor to be able to give back to my local community. I love southern West Virginia and am proud to be from this area. I have an interest in Sports Medicine Fellowship after residency. In my free time I enjoy golfing, hiking, and traveling to new places.
